Friends and family can meet indoors again next week with groups of 30 outside

Friends and families will be allowed to meet indoors again next week as lockdown restrictions lift in England.

Boris Johnson has announced the latest relaxation of coronavirus measures as part of his lockdown exit plan.

It means up to six people - or two households - will be able to gather indoors in England from May 17.

Groups of up to 30 people will also be allowed to gather outdoors, while pubs and restaurants can reopen indoors.

The 'rule of six' currently applies outdoors, meaning only six people - or two households - can meet outdoors.

Brits are currently forbidden from entering other people's homes, although there are a few exceptions such as to provide childcare or emergency assistance.

The Prime Minister confirmed the new measures at a Downing Street press conference today.

From May 17, pals and relatives will be able to come together indoors - and it is will get the chance to hug each other for the first time since March last year.

Entertainment venues, such as cinemas, are also set to reopen indoors from next week.

However businesses in sectors that are deemed "highest risk", such as nightclubs, will remain closed until at least June 21.

Foreign travel is also expected to return from May 17, with the so-called green list already announced.

Those who are returning from "amber" and "red" countries will be required to quarantine.

The limit of 30 mourners at funerals will be lifted from May 17, but weddings will be restricted to 30 guests.

This is up from the current cap of 15 guests for weddings in England.

From June 21 the Government hopes to lift all legal limits on social contact.
