Frank Lampard's Aston Villa press conference cancelled after positive coronavirus case

Chelsea have cancelled Frank Lampard's pre-match press conference ahead of the game with Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Blues boss was due to meet the media on Friday afternoon to discuss the clash with Villa on Saturday, but that has now been cancelled.

The decision was made after Blues star Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus and was in self-isolation, along with a number of players who had close contact with him.

The Premier League is due to hold an emergency meeting on Friday morning to discuss the outbreak and the next steps.

What now? How football could respond to coronavirus suspensions

In a statement on the club's official website, Chelsea said: "Callum displayed symptoms similar to a mild cold on Monday morning and has not been at the training ground since then as a precaution.

"However, his test came in positive this evening and he will undergo a period of self-isolation. Despite testing positive for the virus, Callum is doing well and looking forward to returning to the training ground as soon as it is possible."

The Blues' training ground at Cobham was partially closed as a result of the positive test, while Stamford Bridge and the other facilities left open to operate as normal.
