Breaking: Flop leaves Nottingham Forest as loan spell is terminated

Rafa Mir’s loan spell at Nottingham Forest has been cut short, with the striker returning to parent club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Spaniard was due to spend the season at the City Ground, after joining in the summer, but had struggled to make an impact.

Mir made 13 appearances in the Garibaldi - only four of which came in the first XI, and just two of those starts in the Championship - and failed to find the back of the net.

He has been left out of the matchday squad in recent weeks by head coach Sabri Lamouchi, and he last featured in the 2-2 draw at Millwall back at the start of December.

At the beginning of this month Lamouchi admitted it was likely Mir and fellow loanee Arijanet Muric, from Manchester City, would end their time with the Reds early.

Strengthening up front is a priority for Forest during the transfer window, and when asked whether Mir and Muric might depart, the manager said at the time: “Probably, yes.

“We need to decide with the club.

“But everything is under control from the club and they know exactly what I want and what we need. They are working hard for that.”

Upon his return to Wolves, the Premier League club have announced Mir will now join Spanish side SD Huesca on an 18-month loan deal.

While the Reds continue their search for attacking reinforcements, it leaves Lewis Grabban as the only recognised front man ahead of this weekend’s clash with Luton Town.
