BREAKING: First Minister outlines tougher restrictions as Covid cases rise

Coronavirus restrictions will be tightened across Lanarkshire amid fears that the 'Stay at Home' message is falling on deaf ears.

In her briefing to parliament today First Minister Nicola Sturgeon warned that the situation in the country "remains very precarious and extremely serious".

From Saturday click-and-collect services will be limited to retailers providing essential items only which includes clothing, footwear, baby equipment, homeware and books.

Any business who is still allowed to offer click-and-collect will also have to stagger collections by appointment and access inside premises for collection will now be permitted.

Take-aways will only be allowed to operate from a serving hatch or doorway to minimise contact indoors.

There will be a statutory obligation on employers to allow staff to work from home - Nicola Sturgeon said those who were working from home in the first lockdown in March should be doing so now.

Only essential work can be carried out by trades in people's homes and drinking alcohol outdoors will not be permitted in any level four area in Scotland- this currently differs across regions.

The First Minister says today's measures are a "regrettable but necessary means to an end".

Latest figures revealed 384 people died across Scotland in the week ending 10 January - the highest weekly figure since May  - an increase of 197 from the previous week.

There have also been 79 more deaths recorded in last 24-hours.

Nicola Sturgeon has already said  Scotland's current lockdown is "very unlikely" to be lifted at the end of the month
