Fire crews rush to bin lorry fire in Edinburgh amid reports of 'explosion'

A bin lorry fire has been brought under control by the fire brigade following local reports hearing a 'bang' whilst refuse collectors emptied bins.

Linda Allan said on Facebook: "Just seen 2 bin men get the fright of their lives when something exploded when they put a bin in the back of the truck outside Bombay Spice on Duke Street.

"Guys look ok but in shock."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they mobilised two appliances following reports of smoke coming from a bin lorry and 9:04am on Wednesday morning.

The spokesperson confirmed there was no reports of any injury.
