Breaking: Everton issue Jean-Philippe Gbamin injury statement after training incident

Everton have confirmed that Jean-Philippe Gbamin has suffered another injury setback after a "contact knee injury" in training. The 25-year-old is set for a scan in London on Tuesday to determine the extent of the issue.

The midfielder made his return to the side after 597 days out when introduced from the bench in the second half of last week's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.

The Ivory Coast International was targeting increased game time until the end of the campaign after spending the majority of his time with the Blues so far on the sidelines.

However, the latest injury for Gbamin in training means that Carlo Ancelotti will be without the midfielder again for the club's latest match, with an anxious wait over how long this latest absence will be.

The 25-year-old has not travelled with the rest of the squad to the south coast where Everton are set to take on Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Monday evening.

A statement from the club read: "Jean-Philippe Gbamin is not in Everton’s matchday squad for tonight’s Premier League match at Brighton & Hove Albion after sustaining a contact knee injury during training at the weekend.

"Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the 25-year-old Ivorian midfielder will miss the clash on the south coast, with Gbamin set to undergo a scan in London tomorrow to determine the extent of the injury."
