EFL confirm 10 positive coronavirus tests from eight Championship clubs

The EFL have announced that 10 individuals have tested positive for coronavirus from eight different Championship clubs.

A statement read: "Following the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 1058 players and Club staff from the 24 Championship Clubs were tested over the course of Thursday 28 May and Friday 29 May, with 10 individuals testing positive from eight Clubs.

Those players or Club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities."

There is currently no testing progamme underway in League One, but in League Two seven individuals have tested positive from three clubs.

It has been revealed that a Cardiff City member of staff was one of the ten who tested positive for Covid-19 in the Championship.

The news comes after the Premier League confirmed there were zero positive coronavirus tests from the fourth round of testing.

As of yet there is no restart date for the Championship, with the last game in the division played on 8 March.

A final decision is due to be made on June 8, when Championship, League One and League Two clubs will next convene.

Championship teams appear by and large determined to resume fixtures, while League Two teams have indicated that they would prefer to end the season as it currently stands and League One teams remain undecided.

Leeds United were top of the Championship when football was suspended, ahead of second place West Brom by one point and seven points clear of third place Fulham with nine fixtures remaining.

At the other end of the table Barnsley, Luton and Charlton were in the relegation zone, with Hull City, Wigan and Middlesbrough clear of the drop by two points.
