Breaking down WR Chris Conley’s contract with the Texans

The Houston Texans found a temporary solution to their receiving corps with the signing of former Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Chris Conley.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Conley’s contract is for one year and has a $2 million maximum value. $1.5 million of that salary is base value, and $1.5 million guaranteed. Conley’s contract also includes a $250,000 signing bonus, a $1.25 million salary, and $500,000 in catches and play-time incentives.

A 2015 third-round pick from Georgia, Conley’s only good season was in 2019 with the Jaguars when he caught 47 passes for 775 yards and five touchdowns. In his lone season with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, 2018, he caught 32 passes for 334 yards and five touchdowns.

The Texans recently released former New York Jets receiver Chad Hansen. The club still has Brandin Cooks, Randall Cobb, and Keke Coutee on the roster. Quarterback will be the biggest question mark for 2021 as the team awaits to see what happens on the Deshaun Watson front, and also whether they will be starting Ryan Finley or Tyrod Taylor.
