Breaking down the Steelers’ picks in new Draft Wire mock draft

Our friends over at Draft Wire have a brand new three-round mock draft out. You know when it comes to the NFL draft we can’t get enough. So let’s dig into the three picks for the Pittsburgh Steelers and see where the hits and misses are.

First round: Dillon Radunz | OT | North Dakota State

The Steelers could be without offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva and offensive lineman Matt Feiler next season. Both are free agents and at the minimum, Feiler is going to want a big raise. Radunz is the perfect pick for the Steelers in this spot. He would not only be a huge upgrade at either tackle spot but he has a ton of room for growth.

Second round: Patrick Jones | EDGE | Pitt

This pick would be in response to the Steelers losing Bud Dupree in free agency. Jones is a big, fast edge rusher with exceptional balance and a nice mix of pass-rush moves. He would definitely be a great player to bring in to compete with Alex Highsmith for the starting spot opposite T.J. Watt.

Third round: Jamie Newman | QB | Georgia

At this point in the draft, the Steelers roll the dice with Newman. He ransferred to Georgia from Wake Forest but we haven’t seen what he can do on an elite offense. His athleticism is off the charts but he slides here due to the unknown of his ability to operate in an NFL-style passing offense. But it is hard to argue against a guy with so much upside at this point in the draft.
