Breaking down terms of new Dolphins WR Chosen Anderson’s contract

Nearly a month into the new league year, the Miami Dolphins have still been making moves to improve their roster with the hopes of winning a Super Bowl in the near future.

Miami’s most recent transaction was the signing of former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Chosen Anderson. According to Over the Cap, the two sides agreed to a one-year contract worth roughly $1.32 million. Anderson will receive about $1.17 million in a base salary and $152,500 in a signing bonus. His cap hit for 2023 is set to be $1.09 million.

Signing late into free agency, and with a number of young, talented players on the roster, Anderson didn’t receive any guarantees about having a big role in the offense.

“I told him, ‘don’t rush through this decision just because it’s home. Talk to those other teams that are interested in you and make your decision on what’s best for you because we have two dynamic players that are the starters.’ And he understands that,” general manager Chris Grier said Anderson’s addition. “So we told him what the role would be and he was excited and all in on it and was excited to come here. I’ve enjoyed getting to know him and talk to him, so I am excited to add him.”

With Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Cedrick Wilson expected to hold the top three spots, and Braxton Berrios being a free agent signing as well, Anderson’s role in the offense is unclear at this point.

That’s if he even makes the team at all. Miami would save $940,000 if they were to release him before the start of the season and have only $152,500 in dead cap.
