Chase Daniel is the new backup quarterback in Detroit. The ex-Bear signed a three-year deal to change uniforms in the NFC North and hold Matthew Stafford’s clipboard instead of Mitchell Trubisky’s.
For that upgrade in dignity, Daniel will be handsomely compensated. The 33-year-old agreed to sign in Detroit for $13.05 million over three years. The figure includes a signing bonus of $2.25 million, a figure that will be prorated across the life of the contract.
A full $5 million of the deal is guaranteed. Daniel will earn a base salary of $1.25 million in 2020 and $4.3 million in 2021. The 2022 season, the final year, has an interesting structure. Daniel is set to make $5 million, but it’s a dual player/team option.

2022 voids if (Daniel) informs club between 6th and 14th day following 2021 Super Bowl and he repays the Lions $1M.
Basically, Daniel can pay $1 million to get out of sticking in Detroit and earning $5 million in salary. The only conceivable way Daniel would opt to do that would be if he feels he can earn more somewhere else.
