Frank Lampard to Chelsea: Deal set to be wrapped up as Derby grant permission for talks

Derby County have confirmed this afternoon (Tuesday) that they have given Chelsea permission to speak to Frank Lampard over the vacant head coach role.

The Blues legend has been the front runner for the position ever since it was known that Maurizio Sarri would be leaving the club, however things have taken their time to get moving.

Lampard has been away on holiday which has meant that the talks have been delayed, however the Blues are looking to make it a swift managerial appointment over the Blues head coach.

Derby said: "With pre-season fast approaching for both clubs it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions.

"The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so."

Derby's players are set to be heading back for pre-season next week, with Chelsea's players to return to Cobham the week beginning July 8, before heading out to Japan for their pre-season tour.

Negotiations will not take long to be resolved, with the Blues legend expected to agree personal terms quickly to get the deal over the line.

For some it has been seen as a risk that Chelsea will be going after Lampard, who has only one year of managerial experience under his belt.

Chelsea are set to bring in Jody Morris to be his assistant as well, with Gianfranco Zola leaving the club after only one year.
