BREAKING: DeMarcus Cousins suffers ACL tear in Vegas workout

Former Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins has suffered an ACL tear, according to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski earlier reported that Cousins suffered a knee injury during an offseason practice on Monday in Las Vegas. At the time, the extent of the injury was not known and Cousins was awaiting the results of tests and consultation with the Lakers medical team.

According to Wojnarowski via an unnamed source, Cousins bumped knees with another player during the practice.

For the majority of his NBA career, Cousins was as powerful as they come. But more recently, he has become known for his growing string of injuries: a ruptured Achilles just months away from free agency in the 2017-18 season and a torn quadriceps in the second playoff game of his career while playing starting center for the Golden State Warriors in 2018-19.

With any number of injuries possible, a knee-bump injury brought to mind for many NBA fans that Kyrie Irving bumped knees with Klay Thompson during the 2015 NBA Finals, resulting in a fractured patella and end to his postseason run.

According to Charania, however, tests are expected to confirm an ACL tear — the same injury Thompson sustained in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.
