Dejan Lovren forced off with knee injury in Liverpool's clash with RB Salzburg

Dejan Lovren has been forced off with knee injury in Liverpool's clash with RB Salzburg.

The centre-back limped off early into the second half and was replaced by England international Joe Gomez.

Lovren was injured in Liverpool's 3-0 win over Bournemouth on the weekend, and was replaced by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Liverpool medical team assessed the injury, and Jurgen Klopp suggested the knock wasn't a major cause for concern.

Speaking after the clash with Salzburg, he said: "We hope that it’s exactly the same as last time. He felt something and we made the decision. It’s of course not cool.

“He played really well and was very important. We don’t know more in the moment. It felt similar like last time, that’s it. We have to see.”

Liverpool are currently without centre-back Joel Matip, who has also suffered a knee injury.

Klopp said on Matip: "Everything in our life is all under pressure. All the little things have to heal as quickly as possible, but here it is taking the normal amount of time.

"It was not like after four weeks or so that it was already as we wished, so we have to wait another two weeks I would think and then we will see.

"But then he will have been out for six weeks or so, if it is perfect, fine, but he might need to rebuild his physical things as well, which is not too cool, but it is nothing serious."
