A cyclist has died after being hit by a car in Gorton.
The smash happened on Hyde Road just after 1.45am this morning (Wednesday).
A black Saab collided with a bike, police said.
The cyclist - a 56-year-old man - was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
He has since sadly died.
The driver of the car, a 66-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He remains in custody for questioning.
A police cordon was in place on a stretch of Hyde Road near Reddish Bridge this morning.
The road was closed for just over seven hours while accident investigation work took place.
Bus diversions were in place and drivers were being urged to avoid the area.
Hyde Road has now reopened as normal and the cordon has been lifted.
Detectives are now urging anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
Police Sergeant Matt Waggett, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a tragic incident in which a man has very sadly lost his life and our thoughts are with his family during this extremely difficult time.
"We are working hard to piece together how the collision happened and we would urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone who may have dashcam footage to get in touch as soon as possible."
