BREAKING: Covid-19 lockdown restrictions extended to Renfrewshire

Renfrewshire has been added to the list of council areas which now have to follow lockdown restrictions in an attempt to stop the spread of Covid-19.

The Scottish Government is adding the local authority to the list - alongside East Dunbartonshire -  one week after people in Glasgow, East Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire were banned from mixing in each other's houses.

The restrictions now apply to more than 1.1 million people living in the five council areas.

The major development comes after Scotland recorded 146 new cases of Covid-19 in the past day - with 78 of them in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde region.

Those living in Renfrewshire - which has a population on 179,000 -  will:
* No longer allowed to meet up with other households

* Only be allowed to spend time with a a loved one in a care home  outside

* Wait seven days for the guidelines to  be reviewed and

* Potentially have to stick to the new regulations for a fortnight.

More to follow.
