Club Players Association chief Micheal Briody says breaking the county training ban is effectively ‘cheating’ and ‘no different than doping’.
GAA chiefs have now warned counties that suspensions may follow for managers and county boards found to be organising training for county teams before the September 12 return to play rules.
Briody told Midwest Radio’s Sunday Sport show: “It’s akin to cheating, it’s no different than doping, you’re trying to break a rule to get an unfair advantage. an appropriate sanction for a rule break like this is not a €100 or €200 fine for the county board.
“an appropriate sanction is to be kicked out of the competition that you’re trying to steal a march on.”
