Breaking: Coronavirus trace and protect experts called into third Renfrewshire school

A third primary school in Renfrewshire has been identified as having a pupil or member of staff test positive for Covid-19.

The Express has this afternoon been told  pandemic trace and protect experts have been carrying out investigations into a case at St James' Primary School in Renfrew.

The Brown Street primary is the latest to have been affected by coronavirus since the schools reopened just one week ago.

Todholm Primary confirmed on Monday that one child had been exposed to and infected with the deadly bug in the community and that all those who had been in close contact with the youngster at school had been asked to self isolate.

And yesterday evening, the local authority also confirmed that health officials were carrying out contact tracing at Wallace Primary in Elderslie.

It is understood that parents have been told to continue to send children to all three schools

But education chiefs yesterday reminded parents not to send their children to school if they - or anyone in their household - is showing any symptoms of Covid-19.

These include a new and persistent cough, high temperature or fever and loss of taste and smell.

The person showing symptoms should self-isolate and be tested as soon as possible.
