Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone weigh in at 170lb for UFC 246 clash

Conor McGregor scaled 170lb ahead of his return to the UFC against Donald Cerrone.

The Irishman is fighting in the welterweight division for just the third time as he competes for the first time since he was choked out by Khabib Nurmagomedov 15 months ago.

He was expected to weigh in lighter than the limit after claiming he was 10lb under at the start of the week.

But instead he matched he matched his opponent's weight.

Cerrone was the first to make weight at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas on Friday morning.

The grizzled 50-fight veteran has also flitted between lightweight and welterweight during his career.

McGregor, who will earn a basic purse of £4million but claims his earnings will hit £60m, arrived 40 minutes into the two-hour weigh-in window.

After enquiring about his opponent's weight, he stripped down and scaled exactly the same.

Former two-weight champion McGregor is the odds-on favourite to prevail at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night.

Cerrone is a notoriously slow-starter and has historically struggled against southpaws.

But McGregor insists he will be happy to accumulate rounds on his long-awaited return,

"I'm going to go in and I'm going to look to acquire rounds in here. I'm not going to be in a rush," he said this week.

"I'm going to put pressure on Donald, I'm going to hurt Donald. If he can last, I'll be happy. I'll be happy to acquire rounds in here and then build on these rounds."

Cerrone will bank his first seven-figure pay cheque but insists he has what it takes to upset McGregor.

He said: "They always say I can't do the big fights. Well, this is the big one so we're going to see.

"All those guys who have beaten me have gone on to be champions and title contenders, so it's not like I'm getting my a** kicked by nobodies. The dudes that are beating me are good.

"I've been in this sport for a long time and I deserve the respect I get - and it's cool to see Conor has given it to me."

Conor McGregor vs Donald Cerrone is live on BT Sport Box Office on Saturday night, priced at £19.95
