Boy, 6, taken to hospital after 'Twister ride fall' at Lightwater Valley Theme Park

A boy has been airlifted to hospital after apparently falling off a rollercoaster at Lightwater Valley theme park.

Horrified visitors watched as emergency services attended the theme park - popular with families from North East Lincolnshire.

According to witnesses, the six-year-old fell "30ft face down" from the Twister rollercoaster at the North Yorkshire attraction.

A witness said on Twitter: "Just saw a kid fall off the Twister rollercoatser.

"As it went down the fast bit towards the 'souvenir' camera he slid out and over top of carriage. Fell face down about 20/30 feet to ground."

Another said: "Air ambulance arriving at Lightwater Valley Theme Park. Awful accident on the Twister ride this morning.

"We'd just joined the Q when it happened. Hope the kid involved is gonna be okay."

One witness on social media said he saw "a kid fall off the Twister rollercoaster" at the Lightwater Valley park near Ripon in North Yorkshire.

He posted images showing an air ambulance and emergency staff at the site.

Police attended the park at around 11.30 am on Thursday.

A spokeswoman for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance said: "I can confirm that we attended and transported a child to Leeds General Infirmary".

North Yorkshire Police said in a statement to Grimsby Live: "Police were called to reports of a medical incident involving a child at Lightwater Valley theme park near Ripon at 11.30am today.

"The child, a 6-year-old boy, who was conscious when officers arrived at the scene, has been taken to hospital. His condition is not believed to be life threatening.

"The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been notified.

"Officers remain at the scene."
