Ruben Loftus-Cheek spotted on crutches as Chelsea face injury blow ahead of Europa League final

Chelsea face a nervous wait to discover the extent of Ruben Loftus-Cheek's injury after the midfielder was taken off with a suspected ankle problem.

The midfielder came on as a half-time substitute in the Final Whistle on Hate charity game against New England Revolution, but was involved in a heavy challenge and had to be substituted - with the England international going straight down the tunnel with Chelsea medical staff.

Maurizio Sarri will hope it is nothing serious, with the Europa League final against Arsenal looming.

A prolonged absence from Loftus-Cheek would only leave the Blues with just three fit senior midfielders for the final in Baku: Ross Barkley, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic - if N'Golo Kante does not recover from his hamstring injury.

Chelsea player ratings vs New England Revolution: Barkley outshines Hazard in sparking display

After a mostly frustrating season, Loftus-Cheek had only recently established himself in Sarri's first team plans, playing a key role in the Blues' run to the Europa League final.

After the game against New England, a comfortable 3-0 win for Chelsea, Loftus-Cheek was seen hobbling through the mixed zone on crutches - which does not bode well for his prospects of playing in Baku against the Gunners.
