Chelsea qualify for Carabao Cup final after eliminating Antonio Conte's Tottenham

Chelsea have booked their place in the Carabao Cup final after eliminating Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

The Blues had a two-goal advantage over Spurs heading into the game after winning the first leg 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, with Kai Havertz breaking the deadlock early on before Ben Davies inadvertently scored an own goal shortly after.

Thomas Tuchel's side then secured a 1-0 win on Wednesday night, scoring the only goal of the game through German defender Antonio Rudiger, who headed past Pierluigi Gollini in the 14th minute.

The west Londoners have now reached final of the competition for the first time since 2019.

Chelsea were defeated on penalties by Manchester City on that occasion after a stalemate 120 minutes, but the Blues will be confident about getting their hands on the trophy for the sixth time in their history.

They will face either Liverpool or Arsenal in the final that is set to take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, February 27.

The two had their first leg postponed last Thursday after Liverpool recorded an outbreak of suspected positive Covid tests, leading to them having to temporarily close their training ground complex.

The delayed first leg will now take place at Anfield on Thursday, with the return leg at the Emirates coming up a week later on 20 January.

The EFL is yet to confirm the kick-off time for this year's showpiece match but every final since 2016 has commenced at 4:30pm.
