Chelsea learn full details for the end of the 2019/20 Champions League

The Champions League will end with a mini tournament in Lisbon, it has been announced.

Question marks have hung over the end of the 2019/20 campaign, with the coronavirus pandemic suspending the tournament midway through the quarter-final stage.

But UEFA have announced that the quarter-final ties, the semi-finals and the final will all be played in Lisbon between August 12 and August 23.

The remaining round of 16 second leg ties which have not yet been played, which includes Chelsea's game with Bayern Munich, will be played on August 7/8, but it is not yet know whether that will be at Bayern's ground or in Portugal.

Games will be staged between Benfica's Estadio de Luz - host stadium of the Euro 2004 and 2014 Champions League finals - and Sporting CP's Estadio Jose Alvalade.

The final will be played at the former with the competition resuming on August 7.

The competition will be played out in Portugal's capital across 11 days with the final penned in for August 23.

ESPN report that original host city Istanbul expressed concerns about hosting the final last month in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen travel restrictions put in place across Turkey.

And after UEFA decided the tournament should be concluded in a mini-competition format, Istanbul stood down as host, allowing Lisbon to take the mantle.

ESPN report that the proximity between Lisbon's two stadiums and the ease of travel within the city along with the high number of hotels - which will be used by the eight competing clubs - made it a prime candidate.

There has also been a change in host city for the Europa League with Germany now taking over from Gdansk in Poland.

The Europa League's final stages will be based across Cologne, Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Gelsenkirchen between August 10 and 21 with all ties single-leg knockout fixtures.
