Chelsea dealt Reece James injury blow during first half against Man City

Reece James had to be substituted in the first half for Chelsea against Manchester City today after suffering an ankle injury.

The 21-year-old, who was making his first Premier League start for the Blues since August, was enjoying a good battle with Manchester City's Jack Grealish on the wing before he eventually was forced off with what looked like an ankle injury.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel immediately called on Thiago Silva and Trevoh Chalobah to start warming up, and brought on the Brazilian to replace James as he was assisted off the pitch.

With Silva slotting into the centre-back role, skipper Cesar Azpilicueta moved over to right-back to fill in as Chelsea ended a cagey first half with nothing to separate them and Pep Guardiola's side.

Gabriel Jesus had the best chance of the half with a snap-shot late on, though the game has yet to have any clear-cut chances for either team.

Chelsea have had to defend for long periods in the game with City dominating possession, with chances for forwards Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner currently few and far between for the Blues.

Tuchel made four changes from his side after they beat Spurs 3-0 last time out, with James joining N'Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy and Werner in the starting XI for the game at Stamford Bridge.

Victory for Chelsea today would see them go six points clear of Guardiola's City.
