Chelsea's 2019/20 Champions League squad revealed - and there's three surprise inclusions

Chelsea's return to the elite of European football is a week away.

After a year in the Europa League, which proved fruitful, with the Blues winning the trophy by beating Arsenal in the final, Frank Lampard will guide his team in the Champions League this time around.

The Chelsea legend has huge experience of the competition as a player and won it in 2012, but it will be his first year in the elite tournament from a manager's perspective.

The Blues were drawn in group H and will play Ajax, Valencia and Lille, with their first game set to take place on Tuesday, September 17 at home to Valencia.

But who is in their squad for the campaign?

Chelsea, like everyone else, have a List A group and a List B group.

Each club must name a maximum of 25 players, two of whom must be goalkeepers. There are a minimum of eight places reserved exclusively for 'locally trained players'.

If a club have fewer than eight locally trained players in their squad, then the maximum number of players on List A is reduced accordingly.

Locally-trained players are club-trained players who were on the books between the ages of 15 and 21, or association-trained players who were on another club's books in the same association for three years between the ages of 15 and 21.

No club can have more than four association-trained players among their eight 'local' nominees on List A.

A player may be registered on List B if he is born on, or after, January 1, 1998 and has been eligible to play for the club for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday.

And three players on that list are Billy Gilmour, Marc Guehi and George McEachran.
