Channel 4, 5 and More4 go off-air as thousands of viewers left with blank screens

Thousands of viewers around the UK have been left with blank screens as Channel 4, 5, 4Music and More4 have gone off-air.

It comes as Red Bee Media, who play out the channels and adverts, is reportedly evacuating its West London White City transmission centre.

Channel 4's official Twitter page confirmed that it was suffering from technical issues and that they were "hoping to restore them as quickly as possible.

They tweeted: "Channel 4 and More 4 are currently off air due to a technical problem. We are working to restore them as quickly as possible."

Viewers flocked to Twitter to comment, with one joking: "Going out to panic buy Channel 4."

While another complained: "Britain is breaking down… #Channel4 #Channel5."

A third wrote: "Britain is breaking down… #Channel4 #Channel5."

"#channel4 also knackered. Stuck on the closing credits of racing. I'm stocking up on toilet rolls and pasta.," another commented.

One viewer shared a video of their flickering TV screen and wrote: "Love watching #E4 it’s great! #Channel4 @Channel4."

Another joked: "It looks like all the #channel4 staff are out looking for petrol. They seemed to have forgotten to leave the YTS staff the password to switch things on."

Meanwhile others joked that BBC had "sabotaged" Channel 4 in hope of gaining more Strictly viewers.

One tweeted: "The BBC have sabotaged #channel4 and #channel5 in a hope of recapturing #strictly viewers. #channel4down."

While another questioned: "Have #channel4 just decided not to bother seeing as they know pretty much everyone is watching #Strictly."

The Mirror have reached out to Channel 4 and 5 for comment.
