Car bursts into flames on busy M8 after horror crash as huge fire seen in Glasgow

Firefighters are battling a fire after a car burst into flames on a busy motorway.

A vehicle burst into flames on the M8 in Glasgow, Scotland, police have confirmed.

Shocking pictures from the scene show a huge ball of flames engulfing one of the cars.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision on the eastbound carriageway on Sunday, report the Daily Record.

A thick plume of black smoke billowed into the air as firefighters tackled the "raging" flames.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to reports of an RTC on the M8 near Greater Western Road.

“The call came in at 14.41 and we are currently still in attendance.”

It is not clear if anyone has been injured.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police were called around 2.45pm on Sunday, 18 October, 2020, following the report of a car colliding with the central barrier on the M8 Eastbound at junction 17.

"Emergency services are currently in attendance and there are no details on injuries.

"The road is currently closed as well as both slip roads to Dumbarton Road and St George’s Cross."

It is said a collision caused the car to burst into flames.
