BRITs host Jack Whitehall takes aim at Piers Morgan in opening segment

BRIT Awards host Jack Whitehall took aim at Piers Morgan in tonight's opening segment over his awkward exit from Good Morning Britain.

In a hilarious opening segment, Jack made a dig at the former breakfast presenter following his walking off the show back in March.

Piers, 56, infamously stormed off GMB after an on-air row with Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle and, just hours later, quit after refusing to apologise for remarks he had made.

Appearing at the O2 Arena in the UK's first major event in over a year, Jack joked: "This arena has been emptier than Piers Morgan's diary."

And this certainly wasn't Jack's first dig of the night.

Tonight's ceremony kicked off with an incredibly glitzy red carpet, with all eyes on Little Mix as they arrived in matching white outfits.

Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards cradled their bumps as they were joined by Jade Thirlwall as they graced the red carpet at London's O2 Arena.

Noticeably absent was Jesy Nelson, who quit the band last year

Since Jesy's exit, it's been reported that she doesn't even want to be mates with Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne, never mind work with them again.

And it's said that the remaining trio have been upset about some of the things Jesy has said and the fact that she's started working on her own music so quickly.

Ahead of Little Mix making history by winning the award for Best British Band, Jack appeared to reference their split quipped: "Little Mix got littler."

After winning the award, the trio in white joined the stage and were in tears over the win.

Perrie gushed: "Oh my goodness. Guys, we have just made history! I'm really emotional. In the hopes that he won the award, we made a little speech."

Leigh-Anne went on to read their speech, in which they thanked their absent former member.

She said: "We have been together for 10 years, it's been the best years of our lives... we want to thank our incredible fans and of course Jesy."

"It's not easy being a female in the pop industry [but] we've stuck together.

Jade added: "The fact that a girl band has never won this award speaks volumes."
