British Airways pilots call for strike action following dispute over pay

British Airways pilots have called for strike action, according to reports.

Members of the union British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) have rejected a pay package from management at IAG, the airline's owner.

As a result, pilots are calling for the union to hold a formal strike ballot.

If the ballot does go ahead and members of BALPA vote in favour of industrial action, it's not yet clear when potential strikes could go ahead.

Currently there is no formal strike ballot being held.

BALPA General Secretary, Brian Strutton, said: "Our members in British Airways have rejected the latest pay package offered by the company.

"96 per cent voted against the proposal and asked that we proceed to an official ballot for industrial action. We are urgently considering next steps and will make a further statement later this week. Until then we have no further comment."

A representative for British Airways told Mirror Online: "We believe our pay and benefits for pilots are among the best in the industry.

"Our latest pay proposal of 11.5 per cent over three years is fair and generous, and we continue open discussions with all our trade unions."
