Brentford star Julian Jeanvier given oxygen on the pitch after nasty head injury

Brentford defender Julian Jeanvier was carried off on a stretcher after receiving a blow to the head in the first minute of their Championship clash against Preston.

The Bees centre-back, 27, was given oxygen and treated on the pitch for more than 10 minutes after landing awkwardly.

Brentford tweeted: “Jeanvier being placed on a stretcher, with physio staff and ambulance staff in attendance.”

He was thought to be conscious as he left the field to applause from the Griffin Park crowd. Moses Odubajo replaced him in defence.

Jeanvier, who signed for the Bees from French outfit Reims in 2018, has featured 31 times this season.

The injury lead to a massive 13 minutes of injury time being added on at the end of the first half, with a fan also being taken ill at the game just minutes after Jeanvier was taken to hospital.

However, the injury wasn’t as bad as first feared as Jeanvier didn’t require hospital treatment and joined his team-mates on the end-of-season lap of honour after their 3-0 win at Griffin Park.

Brentford went on to win the game 3-0.
