Brazil seal Dani Alves' Olympic dream with Tokyo 2020 final win over Spain

Brazil have claimed gold in the men's football at the Olympics after seeing off Spain in the final.

The South Americans saw off their opponents 2-1 with Malcom grabbing the decisive goal in extra-time.

Mikel Oyarzabal's strike on the hour had cancelled out Matheus Cunha's opener.

Brazil hit the woodwork as they sought a winner but Malcom's pace allowed him to race clear and slot past Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon.

The South Americans had picked a strong team as they aimed to again win gold on the Olympic stage, having claimed the top prize at their own games in 2016.

Dani Alves was among the leading names alongside Everton's Richarlison.

The full-back has enjoyed a trophy-laden career and has won nearly every competition he's entered, both at club and international level.

A World Cup triumph is the only thing missing from a glittering CV that boasts several Champions Leagues and a host of league titles.

Alves was handed a Brazilian flag, which he draped over himself as he and his team-mates celebrated.

It was the only honour missing from Dani Alves' career until he helped Brazil win gold.

The success will help to slightly heal the wounds from their recent Copa America defeat at the hands of rivals Argentina.

Brazil find themselves 15th in the medal tabled having bagged six golds.

Their over haul is up to 18 following four silvers and eight bronzes.

Brazil have benefitted from various water sports with Italo Ferreira claiming surfing gold.

Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze also succeeded in the sailing whilst Ana Marcela Cunha, Isaquias Queiroz and Hebert Conceição have also stood on the top step.
