A lifeless man was pulled from a park's lake after distressed members of the public spotted his body in the water.
Paramedics rushed to Walton Hall Park in Liverpool this morning following the upsetting sighting.
A man was rescued from the water and given CPR, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene, Liverpool Echo reported.
Police patrols and an air ambulance were sent to the lake at 8.58am.
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: “Emergency services were contacted at just before 9am following reports that the body of a male had been discovered in the lake.

“The male was removed and CPR commenced but he was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and notify his next of kin.”
The air ambulance has left the scene and police have cordoned off the area around the lake as officers attempt to establish the circumstances of the man’s death.
Police are speaking to witnesses and checking CCTV.

News of the man's death led to an outpouring of sorrow online.
"Heard the helicopter this morning and wondered what had happened. So sad," one woman wrote.
Another woman wrote:" How very sad thoughts with this man’s family and friends. Rest easy fella."
Walton Hall Park lies to the north of Anfield, has two lakes and is 130 acres.
