Bourne house fire: Woman dies after horrifying blaze

A woman in her 50s has died in a house fire in Lincolnshire.

She was rushed to hospital on Friday night after the fire broke out at the semi-detached house in Bourne.

Police said she had suffered serious injuries in the blaze, which was reported at 9.14pm.

Taking to twitter this afternoon, officers confirmed a woman has died.

"We can confirm that the fire at Recreation Road in Bourne has proved fatal," the tweet read.

"A joint investigation between Lincolnshire Police and Lincolnshire Fire and rescue service is ongoing."

One neighbour told Lincolnshire Live he had been watching TV when he became aware of the sirens and blue lights.

Kam Rai, the owner of a nearby fish and chip shop, told of her shock as she saw billowing out of the house.

She said: “We usually close at 9pm but we were a bit later last night.

“By the time we closed I’d seen police vehicles going by and I just thought there might be some trouble.

“When we were walking home, we could see smoke coming out [of the house] but we didn’t see any flames.

“We didn’t realise it was as serious as it was.”

The county's assistant chief fire officer Dan Quinn tweeted: "Sadly @LincsFireRescue attended this fire @bourne_fire last night.

"Thoughts are with family & friends at this difficult time.

"Fire Investigation Officers continue to investigate the cause.

"Fire Safety & crews will be in the area to reassure the community over the next 48-72 hrs."

Another neighbour wrote on Facebook: "They may not see this but I would like to say a big thank you to the group of lads who banged on our door earlier down rec road to alert us to the fire next door.

"So from me my wife and kids and neighbours thank you.

"I would also like to take a minute to thank the amazing crews of all emergency services for their hard work and dedication. You guys and girls are amazing."

A section of the road has been taped off while emergency services comb the scene.

Black smoke stains can be seen on the house front while a green cover has been put up by the authorities.

A cause has not yet been determined.
