BREAKING: Blackpool Tower evacuated with firefighters at the scene

Blackpool Tower has been evacuated after smoke was seen inside the building.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service was called at around 10.20am this morning (December 12), when an alarm went off inside the landmark.

On arrival, crews saw smoke inside the 158-metre tall seafront attraction but no cause has yet been established.

It prompted a full evacuation of the 125-year-old listed building, LancsLive reported this morning.

An investigation has been launched.

Pictures from the scene showed people who had been evacuated on the promenade.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We have six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform at the base of Blackpool Tower following reports of smoke in the building.

"There has been a full evacuation, no injuries have been reported and we are investigating where the smoke came from."

Crews remain at the scene and it is expected they will be there for at least another hour while the probe takes place.

Traffic on the Promenade is still moving and the road remains open.
