BBC's Big Night In raises £27million after Peter Kay's TV return and Prince William sketch

The BBC's Big Night In raised a jaw-dropping £27,398,675 for charity following guest appearances from Prince William and Peter Kay.

Children In Need and Comic Relief teamed up for the first time to help highlight unsung heroes and raise money for vulnerable people during the coronavirus pandemic.

Among those taking part tonight included Catherine Tate, who reprised her role as sulky teenager Lauren, as well as Matt Lucas and David Walliams, who reunited for Little Britain.

Dan French also reprised her Vicar Of Dibley role in a one-off special.

However, a highlight for many was Prince William's surprise Blackadder sketch with Stephen Fry.

The Duke of Cambridge appeared alongside Stephen Fry for the comedy sketch.

During the tongue-in-cheek clip, Prince William jokingly asked Stephen Fry for TV recommendations, admitting: "It's hell without EastEnders!"

The night ended with 'Very Little Britain', leaving viewers in hysterics as David Walliams and Matt Lucas got very creative with their props.

This included using a collection of scourers as a grey wig and spaghetti for Matt's Vicky Pollard hair.

However, viewers were also left in tears by a number of moving segments following key workers on the front line.

Chief among the bawlers was reigning Strictly champ Kelvin Fletcher.

"It's only just started," he tweeted, "And I'm crying already #TheBigNightIn."

Another fan penned: "5 minutes in and I'm already crying #TheBigNightIn."
