Berkhamsted deaths: Bodies of man and woman, both 81, found in house

Two pensioners have been found dead at a house in a leafy Home Counties town.

Police confirmed officers found the man and woman, both 81, dead at the large property in posh Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, early this morning.

Paramedics tried desperately to save the couple but they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Hertfordshire Police are investigating the circumstances around the deaths near a golf range, where house prices exceed £500,000.

Residents on the road - Darr's Lane - have recently complained to authorities of speeding drivers, social media suggests.

They say it appears to be an isolated incident and are not seeking anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Photos at the scene show police stood outside the property, which has been cordoned off amid the probe.

Hertfordshire Police's full statement reads: "Police were called at 7.54am this morning (March 22) to reports of concern for the welfare of a man and woman at an address in Darrs Lane, Northchurch.

"Officers entered the property alongside the ambulance service and sadly two people inside were pronounced dead at the scene.

"The circumstances around the deaths are currently being investigated and police remain at the scene.

"This appears to be an isolated incident and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this."
