Bayern Munich and Barcelona reach transfer agreement for Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich for the transfer of Philippe Coutinho.

Catalan radio station RAC1 confirmed the deal has been struck, and Coutinho will join on an initial season-long loan.

Guillermo Amor, director of institutional and sporting relations for Barcelona and an official club spokesperson, told Movistar+: "I can confirm that there's an agreement in principle in the case of Coutinho's loan [to Bayern]."

The Brazilian has not been included in Barca's squad for their La Liga opener at Athletic Bilbao this evening.

Coutinho was widely tipped to be used as a makeweight in a deal to bring Neymar back to the Nou Camp.

The former Barca star wants out of PSG and the Catalan giants remain favourites to secure his services.

But Coutinho's exit could throw that into doubt, with Real Madrid also weighing up a move.

Former Liverpool midfielder Coutinho left Anfield for Barcelona in January 2018 when he sealed a £142million move to the Spanish side.

But he has struggled with the Blaugrana, failing to establish himself as a regular started under Ernesto Valverde.

He will be looking for more action in Germany and is set to become Niko Kova's fifth summer signing.

Coutinho has made 75 appearances in all for Barca, scoring 21 goals.
