There’s been some confusion over the recently announced Breaking Bad movie. Would the cinematic adaptation follow a new set of characters? Act as a prequel akin to Better Call Saul? A continuation of the main series?
A new report from SlashFilm claims the latter to be true. The publication claims the upcoming feature-length film will follow Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman after the events of the devastating finale, with the actor having agreed to star.
The Albuquerque Journal first reported that series creator Vince Gilligan is working on the project, saying the movie “tracks the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom”.
It is currently unclear whether the film – reportedly titled Greenbriar (likely a working title) – will air in cinemas or on television, but production is scheduled to begin this month and last through to February 2019.
Breaking Bad follows the chemistry teacher Walter White who turns to a life of crime after being diagnosed with lung cancer. The series began in 2008 and was followed by the prequel series Better Call Saul, which recently wrapped its fourth season. Gilligan has stated the fifth could be its last.
Another TV series getting the film treatment is HBO’s Deadwood that finally began production this week with 12 original cast members – including Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant and Breaking Bad’s very own Anna Gunn – set to return.
It was also revealed this week that Andrew Lincoln would star in a trilogy of films dedicated to his Walking Dead character Rick Grimes having left the series in its most recent episode.
