Breaking Bad movie: Two-hour film 'being developed' by show creator Vince Gilligan

Five years after airing its finale, Breaking Bad could be returning in the form of a feature-length film.

Variety reports that series creator Vince Gilligan is working on the project, which will have ties to the series that starred Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul.

Not much is known other than the film will last for two hours with a brief synopsis in The Albuquerque Journal showing that the film “tracks the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom”.

It is currently unclear whether the film – reportedly titled Greenbriar – will air in cinemas or on television, but production is scheduled to begin this month and last through to February 2019.

Another TV series getting the film treatment is HBO's Deadwood that finally began production this week with 12 original cast members – including Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant and Breaking Bad's very own Anna Gunn – set to return.

It was also revealed this week that Andrew Lincoln would star in a trilogy of films dedicated to his Walking Dead character Rick Grimes having left the series in its most recent episode.

Breaking Bad, which follows a chemistry teacher who turns to a life of crime after being diagnosed with lung cancer, began in 2008. Prequel series Better Call Saul recently wrapped its fourth season, with Gilligan stating the fifth could be its last.
