Arsenal star Bukayo Saka withdraws from England squad after positive Covid-19 test

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has withdrawn from the England camp after returning a positive Covid-19 test on Thursday.

The Englishman had been selected by Gareth Southgate for the upcoming international friendlies against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast respectively, but the 20-year-old returned a positive test on Thursday afternoon after arriving on Tuesday.

Saka tested negative for coronavirus upon arrival at England's camp, but he missed training on Wednesday and was forced to remain inside his hotel room at St George's Park. After testing positive on a second test on Thursday, he has had to withdraw from the squad.

Taking to social media, Saka emphasised just how disappointed he is by the news: "I am gutted to withdraw from England camp but I have tested positive for Covid-19 and I will be isolating until I am negative," he said. "I’ll be supporting the boys from home this weekend and I can’t wait to be being back doing what I love soon."

England Football have also confirmed that they're not expecting to add any replacements to their squad before Saturday evening's clash with Switzerland. A statement on the official website read: "Bukayo Saka has left the England camp having tested positive for COVID-19.

"The Arsenal player has been isolating from the rest of the squad at St. George’s Park since Wednesday and has now returned home."

Saka will now look to rest and recover before returning to action with Arsenal on April 4 in a crucial Premier League clash with Patrick Vieira's Crystal Palace.
