Arsenal set to confirm £27m William Saliba transfer as centre-back chooses Gunners over Spurs

Arsenal are poised to confirm their second signing of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners - who are expected to be busy bolstering a squad which finished fifth in the Premier League as well as losing the Europa League last season - have so far only managed to bring in one player.

That was Brazil wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano.

But the winger is set to be joined at the Emirates Stadium by another teenager.

football.london understands the north London outfit have reached an agreement with Saint-Etienne for the signing of promising defender William Saliba.

The fee is £27m and the 18-year-old still has to undergo a medical before the deal is complete and made official.

As per previous reports, Saliba won't be playing for the Gunners next season. Instead he will be heading back to the Ligue 1 outfit to continue his development.

Tottenham were heavily linked but Unai Emery's side have beaten off the competition from their rivals and this could be the start of an exciting transfer period that Josh Kroenke promised earlier in the week.

The Gunners are also moving closer to a deal for Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, who is expected to join on loan from the European giants. The Spanish Under-21 midfielder is currently on holiday and did not travel with Los Merengues on their tour of the United States, which will see them face Arsenal in Washington DC next week.

Though two bids have been rejected by Celtic for Kieran Tierney there is also confidence that a deal can be done at around the £25m mark.

Arsenal are also in the market for a winger, with Wilfried Zaha their first-choice even though he seems to be out of their price range. Gremio's Everton Soares has also been heavily linked with a move in recent days.
