Arsenal star Kieran Tierney ruled out of Scotland's Euro 2020 opener vs Czech Republic

Arsenal's Kieran Tierney has been ruled out of Scotland's Euro 2020 Group D opener against Czech Republic at Hampden Park this afternoon.

The defender is not even named on the bench because of a minor injury that Scotland hope will clear up in time for Friday night's trip to face England at Wembley. Liam Cooper of Leeds United will start in Tierney's place on the left of a back three.

Manager Steve Clarke said in his pre-match press conference yesterday that his squad had a clean bill of health, while Tierney took part in the open part of their training session.

But it turned out the 24-year-old had picked up an issue earlier in the week that they hoped would recover in time for their first tournament match in 23 years.

Clarke has now said that they believe he will be fit for the meeting against their neighbours in four days' time.

Speaking to BBC before the game, the manager said: "Kieran picked up a little niggle in training so not ready for this one, hopefully ready for the next one."

Chelsea's midfielder Billy Gilmour is on the hosts' bench against a Czech side featuring the West Ham United pair Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal.

Manchester United's Scott McTominay and Aston Villa's John McGinn start in midfield with the team captained by Liverpool wing back Andrew Robertson.
