Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny completes Bordeaux transfer

Laurent Koscielny has completed a move to Bordeaux.

The Arsenal club captain sent shockwaves through the north London club when he refused to go on their pre-season tour of the United States this summer, in an attempt to force a move away from the Emirates.

And he has got his wish, with the Gunners confirming his transfer to the French side on Tuesday.

The fee is thought to be in the region of £4.6million, with Koscielny choosing Girondins over Rennes, who were also interested in signing him this summer.

Koscielny made 353 appearances for the Gunners after signing from Lorient in 2010, winning the FA Cup three times while at the Emirates.

With only one year remaining on his contract, the Frenchman was reported to be unhappy at receiving a new contract offer at lower terms than he was currently on, and forced a move away from the club.

When he made the decision not to go on the club's pre-season tour, an Arsenal statement read: "We are very disappointed by Laurent’s actions, which are against our clear instructions.

"We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time."

And former boss Arsene Wenger, who knew the player well, had his say on the incident.

"I am very surprised by the current situation," he told L'Equipe (via Get French Football News ).  "I do not know the whole story, but Laurent’s behaviour with me has always been beyond reproach. I think highly of Laurent as a man."
