Arsenal confirm Nikolaj Moller transfer from Malmo

Arsenal have confirmed that 18-year-old Nikolaj Moller has joined the club on a permanent transfer from Malmo.

It has been specified that the striker will be joining the club's Professional Development Phase but it is expected that he will be involved with Steve Bould's Under-23s.

Moller has spent most of his youth career in Sweden but recently had an 18-month spell with Bologna's academy in Italy where he scored three goals in 17 games for the club.

Despite being so young, Moller stands at 6ft4ins which, alongside his technical ability, has drawn comparisons to Zlatan Ibrahimovic who, of course, represented Malmo also.

Why Arsenal waited so long to pay Thomas Partey's release clause

As things stand, Bould was in need of a striker this season as despite the talent Arsenal's academy has produced, departures have left them thin at striker.

Folarin Balogun has remained at the club even though his future is yet to be tied up, whether that be in north London or elsewhere.

Tyreece John-Jules has secured another loan spell with Doncaster Rovers where he is quickly proving why he is so highly rated in the Arsenal ranks.

In fact, it must not be forgotten in his case that both Freddie Ljungberg and Mikel Arteta were incredibly close to handing John-Jules a first team debut before his loan to Lincoln City last January.

"The other night, this close [gestures with his fingers that he was very close]," he told football.london after playing Leeds United in the FA Cup.

"I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen from him in training, I really like him and I think for the last minutes the other day it was a perfect fit. We ended up making a different decision but I considered him and I asked him to be on the bench for that game because I really believe he can have an impact on the pitch."

The sale of Sam Greenwood to Leeds United earlier in the window also had to be factored into the decision as he began knocking on the Under-23s door before lockdown hit last season.
