Arsenal announce huge £107.3m loss in financial accounts for 2020-21 season

Arsenal have posted a record loss of £107.3m after tax, according to their accounts for the financial year ending May 31, 2021.

The accounts were posted on Companies House today with the club's operational income significantly affected by the majority of last season taking place behind closed doors as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

There was a total football revenue of £327.6 million, down from £343.5million a year previous. Arsenal said £85million of the £107.3million loss can be attributed to the pandemic.

The club paid out £244million in wages, a rise of almost £10million compared to a year earlier, but last summer's £150million transfer spend is not factored into the numbers.

Matchday revenue was only £3.8million, down from £75million the year before because the Emirates Stadium was empty for all but two games.

Broadcasting income increased to £184.4 million from £118.9 million on account of some of the previous campaign, delayed because of the first lockdown, running into the financial year.

Commercial revenues were reduced to £136.4 million from £142.3 million mainly as a consequence of pandemic-related factors.

Earlier on Monday Arsenal announced a ticket price rise of 4% that has been widely criticised by supporters' groups.

A club statement said: "Significant funding has been provided by the ultimate parent company, KSE UK Inc., which is wholly owned by the ultimate controlling party, Mr. E. S. Kroenke.

"During the year KSE UK Inc. provided funds to refinance the stadium finance bonds and for working capital purposes as required.

"The financial challenge remains significant, but the club continues to have the unwavering support and commitment of its ownership, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment."
