Arsenal agree a fee with Sheffield United for Aaron Ramsdale

Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle to sign Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for a fee believed to be in the region of £24million, football.london understands.

Ramsdale has been left out of the Blades' squad ahead of their game against West Brom on Tuesday night, with a move to the Emirates Stadium likely to be confirmed in the coming days.

The Gunners have been interested in the 23-year-old all summer but had previously been put off by United's steep asking price but our sister title Yorkshire Live confirmed on Wednesday evening that a deal had been 'completed in principle' earlier in the day.

football.london revealed the details of a meeting between Arsenal and United last week which saw the Gunners walk away from the deal due to the £40million asking price.

football.london has also learned that the £6million add ons in the deal can only be triggered depending on Ramsdale making a certain number of appearances and Arsenal qualifying for Europe.

When asked why Ramsdale would not feature against the Baggies, Blades manager Slavisa Jokanovic told Sky Sports News: "We talked to Aaron and we felt he was not ready for the game tonight and we took a decision not to use him for the game."

When pressed and asked if there was a transfer on the cards, Jokanovic added: "He is simply not in the right state of mind and we prefer not to complicate things and we start with Mike (Michael Verrips)."

Ramsdale is likely to be Arsenal's fifth signing of the summer, with Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White and Nuno Tavares all joining the club earlier this summer for a combined £76million, whilst Real Madrid playmaker Martin Odegaard is also close to completing a move to the north Londoners.

football.london revealed back in May that technical director Edu was targeting at least five players in this transfer window, with a backup goalkeeper, two defenders and two midfielders all on the agenda.
