Armed police surround Glasgow block of flats - 'loud popping sound' heard

Armed police have surrounded a block of flats in Glasgow.

Photos show officers with guns descended on the building in Kirkwell Road on Monday night, with locals reportedly hearing a loud popping sound.

While further images show armed officers at nearby Cathcart Train Station.

LBC reporter Corrie Martin tweeted an eyewitness told her he saw seven officers with guns run on to the platform, then return and head towards Kirkwell Road.

She later added: "Firearms officer seen with his weapon trained on a flat on Kirkwell Road.

"Eyewitness there says two more went in to the building, they heard shouts of 'Open the door' and a 'popping noise like a stun grenade'.

"We’re told armed units have now left the scene."

At just after midnight on Tuesday, Paul McCann tweeted: "I just checked Kirkwell road where they were seen afterwards.

"One police car on the corner but everything quiet and nobody about otherwise."

One photo shows four officers next to three squad cars in Kirkwell Road, with parked cars either side meaning access is blocked.

While further photos show an armed officer in between two police cars parked on a box junction outside the station.

The Mirror Online has contacted Police Scotland for further information.
