Apple products worth £5m stolen in motorway robbery with lorry driver tied up

Apple products worth £5m were stolen from a lorry during a daring motorway heist.

The robbers targeted the lorry on the M1 in Northamptonshire and tied up both the driver and a security guard.

The robbers stole the lorry and drove it to Eldon Close in Crick, where they transferred the trailer containing 48 pallets of Apple goods on to a getaway truck.

They drove off after the raid, leaving the lorry driver and security guard tied up on their own and making off with their ill-gotten goods including iPhone 11s, AirPods and laptops.

The truck was later found across the county boarder in Lutterworth, Warwickshire, where it is believed the raiders transferred the Apple products into a third vehicle on the evening of November 10.

The incident happened during the week Apple launched its latest iPhone 12 models.

In the statement, Northamptonshire Police say that officers "would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a number of vehicles on the slip road at Junction 18 between the stated times, which may have looked out of place, or who may have dash-cam footage of this area.

"They would also like to speak to anyone who may have been offered any Apple products for sale in unusual circumstances, or who knows of anyone who is selling such items at low-cost prices."

A police spokesman said the stolen consignment also included Apple Watches, a variety of iPads and charging devices.

The daring raid happened as stores prepare for the Christmas rush.

Drivers with dash-cam footage, as well as anyone offered Apple products for sale in unusual circumstances or at low cost are also asked to contact cops on 101 quoting reference number 20000595599.
