Alvin Sargent dead: Spider-Man screenwriter dies aged 92

Oscar-winning Spider-Man screenwriter, Alvin Sargent, has died aged 92.

The celebrated wordsmith died from natural causes at his home in Seattle, US,on Thursday.

He penned the screenplays for Spider-Man 2 in 2004 and Spider-Man 3 in 2007 before rewriting The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012.

He won an Oscar for his 1977 Holocaust drama Julia, which  was based on the writing of Lillian Hellman.

Alvin also won an Academy Award for 1980 film Ordinary People, about a family facing bereavement.

He married life partner, producer Laura Ziskin, in 2010 after 25 years together.

She died from breast cancer the following year.
