BREAKING: Almost 250 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Lanarkshire

The Scottish Government today said that 244 people have now tested positive for coronavirus in Lanarkshire.

That is an increase of 47 new cases (23 per cent), up from 197 yesterday.

It comes as 60 patients across Scotland who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.

The test numbers for March 31 show:

A total of 15,895  Scottish tests have concluded. Of these:

■  13,902 tests were confirmed negative

■ 1993 tests were positive

■ 60 patients who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.

It comes as 60 people have died in Scotland from coronavirus - an increase of 13 overnight.

The number of confirmed cases has risen to 1993 – up 430 from Monday.

The sharp increase comes after one laboratory was unable to submit data over the weekend.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "Coronovirus this is the biggest challenge of our lifetime and  measures we take to tackle it must reflect the magnitude of that.

"These measures are essential to slow down the spread of this virus. They are essential to reduce the peak impact of it."
